This is my second time writing for this blog, and yet I am somehow already seeing the end of my journey in Florence in the near future. This past week was filled with many new and exciting adventures and friends that were made. I’d like to use this entry to discuss a particular friendship I have made, with a student studying abroad at Penn State University. Even though we are not from the same hometown, are not in the same major, do not attend the same school or know the same people: we do have one thing in common and that is that we are studying in florence abroad. We both discussed how being here has opened our eyes to so many new things and how the culture here is so very different than that at either of our universities. She pointed out to me that at PSU, their main activity is the football games. I shared with her that one of my favorite parts about UD is me being a part of Greek life as I am a member of the Chi Omega Fraternity. We both bonded over having to adjust to the Italian culture, and how amazing and different It was. Here, a dinner is not just a quick run to Chipotle for 15 minutes in between classes, but rather a 4-hour dinner where you do not get the check until you ask…at least 2 times. This experience has taught us both to breathe and live in the present, rather than being rushed and constantly anxious and stressed about the next thing to do. I have made so many other friends too, from all over the world, who are all studying abroad in Florence, their chosen city. I am beyond excited for another week here and so sad to even think about leaving so soon. Ciao for now!
